Decorating with candy is a good idea in theory, but let's see how much is left by the time Valentine's Day actually gets here...
The number of days since we found out the Valentine's parties were cancelled is directly equal to the number of days we procrastinated preparing the class cards and treats.
(I hate after-the-fact parties. What's the Valentine's Day equivalent of bah humbug?) Guys--
With the frigid and crazy weather that most of the country has been living in added to the normal craziness of parenting, you may have forgotten that Valentine's Day is this week. THIS.WEEK. But it is not too late. Not nearly. Let's forget about cards and treats for your kids' classmates-- or click here, here, here, and here for some cute ideas. Now, let's think about your wife*. I don't know about you, but flowers that last a week or two are not my idea of a great way to spend $100. I do know some women who like their Valentine's Day flowers, so if your significant other is one of them, I suppose your should play along with her and not bother with my list. BUT if you or she agree with my flowers-are-a-waste theory, that doesn't mean that she doesn't want anything, or that she wouldn't be delighted with a surprise. So let's make better use of that $100:
forever. (Age of technology version: text her something sweet or sexy every hour on the hour throughout the whole day.)
Ok, we're only at $62.50, and I'm out of ideas! Splurge on one of the above, add your own idea, or put the rest towards making this type of thing happen more often! Now. Who's sending this to my husband?... *I went with mom/wife throughout, and directed this to the guys. Adapt as needed. My husband and I will probably each do some of these. Like I said, team effort! :)Happy Valentine's Day, my loves! Happy Valentine's Day, my loves! (I do not have endorsements with any of the above-named companies, though I would welcome any and all! ;)) I just skip to the end and don't bother with the rest. Pizza, wine, and a good dessert is pretty much perfect for us.
http://www.christianmamasguide.com/2014/02/09/the-moms-quintessential-guide-to-valentines-day/ I wanted to make a Valentine's Day decoration, but didn't have anything specific in mind. Browsing pinterest, I found a wreath, with a little banner strung across it. As much as I liked it, I had made the heart wreath (below) a couple years ago, so I already had something for the front door. I decided to use the Pinterest banner wreath as my inspiration instead. I still have material that I bought to recover a chair several years ago (I apparently bought WAY too much, as I have used it for so many projects since then--see below-- and I still have a ton!), and I have Sharpies because, duh, who doesn't have Sharpies. I printed L-O-V-E letters to use as my stencils (don't forget to reverse the image so that it's the right way when you flip it over!). I love 'typewriter' fonts, but you can use any font you like, or even freehand it. I traced over the reversed outline with pencil, then put the letter right-side-up on the material. I traced over the letter to transfer the pencil to the material. Make sense? Then I just followed the pencil lines with a black marker. I liked the outline-only letters, but thought that it wouldn't read well when it was hung up, so I colored them in. I did the same for the heart, using red. I grabbed some clothesline and clothespins that I had from an old craft/gift (you can usually find them at the dollar store if you're not a hoarder resourceful like me), and strung it in my front window. I thought about using string or ribbon, but I liked the extra element that the clothespins added, and it made it really easy to put up, adjust, and (eventually) take down. It still needs a little adjusting, but for something that took me 30 minutes and is made entirely out of supplies I already had on hand, I'm happy with it! (Although, I might make another heart and put the hearts on the ends, with LOVE in the middle; I don't like how the window panes break up the word, but that's just my OCD talking...And, after I took this picture, I added another clothespin to each letter, so that both sides were supported.)
Just a few of the things I've made with this material... |
